FAQ — Boys Sewing Patterns

What does “unisex” mean in the children’s collection?

A unisex design has a construction and silhouette suitable for both boys and girls.

The appearance of the finished garment can be changed through the choice of fabric, colour, trim, pockets and hardware.

When selecting the pattern, use the child’s actual measurements and consider the features of the specific design.

How do I choose the correct size for a boy?

Take the child’s actual measurements and use the children’s size selection calculator on the ERGOMODELS website.

Do not choose the size according to age alone, as children of the same age may have very different heights and body proportions.

For shirts, T-shirts, jackets and other upper-body garments, the chest measurement is usually the main reference. For trousers and shorts, check the waist and hip measurements. The child’s height should also be considered.

Can I change the length of a children’s garment?

Yes. The length of trousers, shorts, sleeves or the garment itself can be adjusted according to the child’s height.

It is better to distribute the adjustment at the designated lengthen or shorten areas of the pattern rather than making the entire change at the hemline. This helps preserve the proportions of the design.

After the adjustment, check the alignment of the pattern pieces and the lengths of the seams that will be joined.

Which fabrics are suitable for boys’ and unisex designs?

The fabric choice depends on the type of garment.

Cotton, linen and blended fabrics are suitable for shirts. Denim, corduroy, suiting and other stable materials may be used for trousers and shorts. T-shirts, sweatshirts and sportswear require knit fabric with the recommended amount of stretch.

Detailed recommendations are provided on the product page and in the information sheet.

Which files are included with a children’s PDF sewing pattern?

After purchase, you receive the pattern in the selected size in two formats:

  • PDF A4 for printing on a home printer;
  • PDF A0 Copyshop for large-format printing at a print shop, copy centre or on a plotter.

Both formats are included in the same purchase, allowing you to choose the most convenient printing method.

An information sheet is also included, containing the list of pattern pieces, cutting layout, fabric requirements, main garment lengths, wearing ease and fabric recommendations.

DXF files and layered projector PDF files are separate products.
